Impacted Canines
Dr. Farhoumand offers orthodontic assistance in two particular ways. First, she can uncover impacted teeth. While impaction often affects the wisdom teeth, it can also affect the teeth that are known as the canines. In some cases, impacted canines will need to be uncovered before a patient can begin treatment with braces. In others, this step won’t occur until the braces are already in place. In this latter instance, the orthodontist needs to make room for the canines to develop.
Accelerated Orthodontics
The other way that Dr. Farhoumand can help is through accelerated orthodontics, also known as Wilckodontics. Treatment with traditional braces typically takes two years to complete, but the process can be accelerated with the help of a periodontist in which treatment time is decreased to 8 months or less. During a special procedure, the patient’s underlying jawbone is stimulated to initiate an inflammatory response that will help the teeth move faster into their desired position.
