Soft Tissue Grafting

Due to oral health problems like gum disease, your smile can look different with time, impacting your overall confidence. One common way this can happen is with gum recession that makes the root structure of your teeth more visible. Not only can exposed tooth roots make them more susceptible to infection and decay, but it can also make your smile look visually less appealing. With soft tissue grafting, Dr. Farhoumand can remove a layer of tissue from the roof of the mouth and graft it to the area impacted by gum recession. Both sites are able to make a complete recovery from this treatment.

Chao Pinhole® Surgical Technique

Chao Pinhole treatment takes a different approach to addressing gum recession than soft tissue grafting. Instead of taking tissue from the roof of your mouth and suturing it to the existing gums, the Chao Pinhole Surgical Technique makes small holes in the gums and gently loosens them to expand them over the exposed roots of teeth. This means you won’t have to worry about sutures or the graft seamlessly integrating with your gum tissue.

Lip Repositioning

Many instances of a gummy smile can be addressed with esthetic crown lengthening or by correcting the position of the teeth, but others may require a different solution altogether. That’s because these cases are actually affected by the position of the upper lip.

If your struggle with excessive gum tissue stems from a high upper lip, then a lip positioning procedure may be the best treatment option for you. By repositioning the height of your lip with a safe, proven procedure known as a Gummy Tuck™, Dr. Farhoumand can help you achieve a more relaxed and confident smile.

Lip repositioning procedures take very little time and come with no scarring. The goal of the procedure is to reduce how much exposed gum tissue you have. Most treatments only take between 30-45 minutes. In that time, Dr. Farhoumand will remove a small strip of tissue from the inside of your upper lip and suture it into a lower position, giving you immediate results.
