Whether you’re used to using a traditional denture or you just had teeth extracted and are looking for the most lifelike and reliable solution to replacing an entire row of teeth, implant dentures may be an excellent option for you. Instead of relying on natural suction, implant dentures anchor a lifelike prosthetic to anywhere from four to six dental implants that are surgically placed below the jawbone. The result is replacement teeth that have been rebuilt from the roots upward, offering a wide range of unique benefits that traditional dentures just don’t provide. What Are Implant Dentures?

Implant dentures are a full row of custom-crafted replacement teeth that are secured within the mouth using dental implants, which are small titanium posts that are placed within the jawbone to restore the root structure of missing teeth. Unlike traditional dentures, these are permanently secured atop the gumline, allowing them to function naturally, all while providing an enhanced bite force.

After the implants have been surgically planted within the mouth by Dr. Farhoumand, they’ll undergo a process called osseointegration, where they naturally fuse with the bone. This offers your dentures an unwavering foundation to be attached to as well as prevents jawbone deterioration in the future, which would happen with traditional dentures. In some cases, preliminary treatments like ridge augmentation and sinus lifts may be necessary to provide enough bone for the implants to successfully fuse with. Dr. Farhoumand will discuss these procedures with you if they’re important to your case.

The Implant Denture Process

The implant denture process can be broken down into four main steps: an in-depth consultation and smile examination, dental implant surgery, the healing process, which will include osseointegration, and finally, the placement of your dentures.

First, Dr. Farhoumand will inspect your teeth and gums and gather a detailed oral and medical health history from you. This will help her plan your surgery and determine whether any preliminary treatments are necessary. Next will be the implant surgery. Depending on your individual oral anatomy, you could receive anywhere from four to six dental implants, which Dr. Farhoumand will place herself, as she’s uniquely qualified to do so.

After your implants have been secured within the mouth, you’ll undergo a lengthy healing period where they will fuse with your jawbone through a process called osseointegration. This will take between three and six months. The last step of the process will be securing your custom-crafted dentures to your implant post and teaching you how to properly care for them!
